"If you’re craving authentic Kerala-style food near in Andheri area in Mumbai, Malabar Hotel at Jose Nagar, Sakinaka is an absolute must-visit! This hidden gem has been my go-to for South Indian delicacies for a long time, and it never fails to impress.
Their Kerala-style beef dishes are the absolute highlight – especially the പോത്ത് ഉലത്തിയത് and പോത്ത് ഫ്രൈ. Both dishes are bursting with traditional spices and cooked to perfection – crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with bold, deep flavors that take you straight to Kerala.
The Kerala porotta is another delight – flaky, soft, and with a lovely balance of texture and taste. It pairs perfectly with their meat dishes, especially the potthu fry or duck roast when available.
Hygiene is clearly a top priority here, which is always reassuring. The food is served cleanly, and the staff are courteous and professional. The service is fast and efficient, even during peak hours.
One of the things I really appreciate is the variety – alongside traditional Kerala meals, they also offer Chinese dishes, which is great when you’re dining with friends who like options. The hotel also provides Onam Sadya during Onam festival – a grand vegetarian feast with all the traditional dishes, beautifully presented and very satisfying. On Easter, they often prepare special pork dishes, which are another highlight worth looking out for.
Occasionally, they also serve crab roast and duck roast, and when they do, make sure to order them – the flavors are rich, spicy, and truly unforgettable.
Beyond the food, Malabar Hotel also offers Paying Guest accommodation and dormitory services – a convenient option for those looking for an affordable and comfortable stay. They also run a mess facility at very reasonable rates, perfect for students and working professionals in the area.
What makes the experience even better is the people – Mr. Sunil (the owner) and Mr. Sebastian (the cashier) are incredibly warm, welcoming, and helpful. Once you get to know them, you’ll feel like part of the family. Their hospitality adds a personal touch that makes every visit memorable.
Overall, Malabar Hotel is more than just a restaurant – it’s a slice of Kerala in Mumbai, offering delicious food, friendly faces, and homely vibes. Highly recommended for anyone who loves South Indian cuisine or wants to experience Kerala-style hospitality."
